AI for salons, barbers and wellness businesses
Between clients there's rarely time to write captions, answer DMs or update the price list. AI can do the first draft of all of it on your phone. The parts it can't do are the ones clients trust you for: the treatment, the honest photo and the advice about their skin or hair.

A client's visit, and where AI fits
-
The enquiry
A message lands on Instagram at 10pm. AI drafts a friendly reply with your prices and the booking link, ready for you to send in the morning. -
The reminder
Your booking system sends it. AI can rewrite the wording so it sounds like you and explains the cancellation policy kindly. -
The consultation form
A form for a new treatment, drafted from the manufacturer's instructions, then checked against your training. -
The treatment
No AI here. That part is you. -
The aftercare sheet
Your own aftercare notes turned into a clear, friendly sheet, with no advice added that you didn't give. -
The review and rebooking
A short, personal reply to a Google review, and a rebooking nudge six weeks later.
Captions, before-and-afters and consent
AI is good at captions: give it the photo, the treatment and the tone you want, and ask for three options.
Two rules come with the photos. A recognisable client's photo is their personal data, so get their agreement before posting, ideally in writing on the consultation form, and take it down if they change their mind. And a before-and-after has to show what really happened: smoothing skin or brightening teeth in the 'after' shot misleads the next client.
Every ad falls under the CAP Code, however it was produced, and objective claims need evidence. 'Reduces wrinkles' or 'detoxifies' needs proof; if AI slips one into a caption, take it out unless you can back it up.
What AI drafts, and what you check
| Content | AI can draft | You check |
|---|---|---|
| Price list | Clear layout and descriptions | Every price, duration and patch-test requirement |
| Aftercare sheet | Friendly wording from your notes | That no medical advice has crept in |
| Captions | Three options in your tone | Claims, and that the client agreed to the photo |
| Review replies | A short thank-you or a calm response | No details of the client's treatment |
| Staff rota | A draft from availability and bookings | Hours, breaks and who's qualified for which treatment |
| Consultation form | Questions and layout | Contraindications, against your training and the product instructions |
Health questions go to a person
Clients ask about allergies, pregnancy, medication and skin conditions. Those answers belong to someone trained, not a chatbot. A client's medical history falls into UK GDPR's special category, the most protected kind of personal data, so it lives in your booking system or on paper rather than in a general AI app.
Your booking software, and a few extras
Your booking system
Systems such as Fresha, Phorest, Treatwell and Timely already send reminders. Look in yours for any new AI options for messages or marketing, and find out which client details they draw on.
A free app on your phone
ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini covers captions, replies and price-list wording, with training switched off in the settings.
An assistant for the team
One place that knows your treatments, prices and tone, so every stylist's captions sound like the salon.
Custom AI assistantsWhat a Kick-Start would look at first
Ideally on a quieter morning, we'd spend half a day in the salon on three quick wins from your week, usually:
- a saved prompt for captions and review replies in your voice, on your phone;
- aftercare sheets and the price list rewritten and checked;
- reply templates for your most common messages, plus a look at what your booking system already does.
The written plan comes within three working days. A website assistant that answers 'do you do gel removal?' at midnight is one possible next step; for a team keen on social media, AI for your marketing is a two-hour session.
Questions people ask
Can AI write our salon's Instagram captions?
Yes, quickly. Give it the photo and the treatment, ask for a few options in your tone, and remove any claim you can't back up.
Can we edit before-and-after photos?
Consistent lighting and cropping are fine. Editing the result itself, such as smoothing skin in the 'after' shot, misleads people and breaks the advertising rules.
Do we need consent to post client photos?
Yes. A photo of a recognisable client is their personal data, so ask first, keep a record, and remove it if they change their mind.
Can a chatbot take bookings for our salon?
Leave the booking itself to your booking system. A website assistant can answer common questions and send people to the booking link.
Can AI write aftercare advice?
It can write up your own aftercare notes clearly. It shouldn't add medical advice, and a reaction should go to a trained person or a doctor.
