AI help across Kent, for businesses and at home
I'm Ross Hayes, based in Herne Bay, and I work in person across East Kent. Businesses get AI set up on their own systems and their teams trained on real work. Individuals learn at home, one-to-one, on the devices they already use. Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham and Thanet carry no travel charge, the rest of Kent costs a little more, and video works anywhere.
No travel charge in Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham and Thanet. The rest of Kent by arrangement, anywhere by video.

About online lessonsFree and funded help in Kent, and where I fit
Some good help in Kent costs nothing, and it's worth knowing about before you pay anyone, me included.
- Library Digital Hubs. Kent County Council's libraries run more than 30 free monthly Digital Hubs, where volunteer Digital Champions help in 30-minute slots. Book on 03000 410 950. Ideal for getting online, email and phone basics.
- The Kent AI Skills Accelerator. Kent County Council has funded an AI skills programme for small businesses. Look on the council's website to see whether it's running now.
- Growth Hub workshops. The Kent and Medway Growth Hub has run free one-off AI workshops for businesses, such as one in Tunbridge Wells in April 2026.
- Online courses. The government's AI Skills Hub offers short free courses to every UK adult, some under 20 minutes long.
These are good for the basics. Where I help is the next step: sitting beside you to set AI up on your own phone, your own inbox or your firm's own systems, and checking it works before I leave. Clubs and community groups can also book a free talk.
Why in person, on your own devices and systems
- Your settings, done properlyPrivacy and data-training settings get switched on the device or account you'll actually use, not on a demo.
- Your real workWe practise on your emails, your quotes and your photos. Examples that are yours are the ones you remember.
- Problems show up on the dayAn app that needs updating, a forgotten login, a shared folder more people can open than you thought. Better found with someone there.
- Passwords stay with youI won't need your passwords or bank details. You type them yourself, on your own device.
- Someone local to ringAfter a lesson you get two weeks of phone help. Business customers can ring the same person who did the work.
Questions about where I work
Do you cover the whole of Kent?
Yes, with a travel charge outside Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham and Thanet: £15 for home lessons elsewhere in East Kent, £30 for the rest of Kent, and 45p a mile for business visits. It's all agreed before you book.
Is there free AI training in Kent?
Some. Library Digital Hubs help with the basics of getting online, and Kent County Council and the Growth Hub have backed AI sessions for businesses. They're a sensible first step if you're just curious.
Why pay for help in person?
Because the hard part is usually your own set-up: your phone, your accounts, your software and your rules about data. A course explains AI in general; in person, we get it working on yours.
Can businesses outside Kent work with you?
Yes. Coaching, talks and most set-up work run over a video call at the same prices. The Kick-Start becomes two calls of under 2 hours on consecutive days, and the team workshop two half-days by video.
Where are you based?
In Herne Bay. There's no office to visit: I come to you, or we meet by video.

Who you'll work with
James Hayes Consulting is led by Ross Hayes, who builds software for his own businesses and uses AI tools in them every day. We set AI up on your real work, explain it in plain English, and tell you straight if something isn’t worth paying for.
Every project starts with a free 15-minute call, and prices are agreed in writing before you commit.
