Group lessons · Friends & neighbours session

Learn AI together, round one kitchen table

Learning alongside people you know is more relaxed, and you can help each other afterwards. The friends and neighbours session is two hours in one home for up to four people, such as a couple, a family or friends from down the road, each using their own phone, tablet or laptop. You split the cost however you like.

Pick a theme for the afternoon

Two hours works well with one theme. Here are four that suit a group, or suggest your own.

Theme 1

Getting started

Everyone sets up a free AI assistant and learns to ask it things by voice and with the camera. Good for mixed groups where some have never tried it.

Theme 2

Scam safety

How cloned voices and fake messages work, one safe word for the whole family, and the protections switched on across everyone's phones.

Theme 3

Photos and videos

Tidying up holiday pictures, rescuing an old print and putting together a short film from a day out.

Theme 4

Planning a trip

Use AI together to plan a real outing or holiday: routes, timings, places to eat and a packing list, all checked against official sites.

Making a group session work

  • One host with good Wi-FiChoose the home with the most reliable connection and enough chairs round a table.
  • Everyone brings their own deviceiPhones, Android phones and laptops in the same room is fine; I move between them.
  • Charged up the night beforeAsk everyone to bring a charger too, as updates and set-up eat battery.
  • Logins sorted in advanceEach person should know their own Apple ID or Google password. They type it themselves; I won't ask for it.
  • Mention different starting pointsIf one of you has never used AI and another uses it daily, say so on the phone chat and I'll plan around it.
  • One goal eachEveryone picks one thing they'd like to be able to do by the end, so nobody leaves without it.

Bigger groups and clubs

This session is built for a small group in a home, where I can sit with each person in turn. For a club, a residents' association, a church group or a society, a talk works better, and I give free talks for clubs and groups on AI and the new scams.

If someone in your group wants to go further afterwards, a ChatGPT lesson or the three-lesson course picks up where the group session left off. For anyone mainly worried about fraud, the scam safety session goes into more depth.

The usual promise covers everyone in the room: no passwords or bank details asked for, nothing sold on the day, and I'll leave whenever you'd like me to. There's no charge for rearranging.

Questions people ask

How many people can join a group AI lesson?

Up to four, in one home. For a bigger group, a free talk is a better fit.

Do we all need the same kind of phone?

No. A mix of iPhone, Android and laptops is fine, and seeing how each one works can be useful in itself.

Can a couple share one device?

You can, but it's usually easier if each person practises on their own, since that's the one you'll use afterwards.

Can we choose our own topic?

Yes. Tell me on the free phone chat what the group wants, and I'll plan the two hours around it.

Who pays, and when?

The £199 is for the session, paid by card on the day or by bank transfer afterwards. How you share the cost between you is up to you.

Who you'll learn with

I'm Ross Hayes, and I live in Herne Bay. I come to you, we use your own phone, tablet or computer, and I explain things in plain English. I never ask for your passwords or bank details, family are welcome to sit in, and there's no selling on the day.

Start with a free 15-minute phone chat, so I can check what you'd like to learn and which device you use.
