Three-lesson course · Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham & Thanet
A beginner's AI course, in three visits to your home
One lesson gets you started. Three, spread over six weeks, give you time to practise between visits and come back with questions, which is how new skills tend to stick. The course follows a simple shape, but every part of it is built around what you want to use AI for.
£349 · three visits
Home visits across Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham and Thanet. Evenings and weekends by arrangement.
Why six weeks, not one long afternoon
A lot of learning happens between lessons, when you try something on your own and it doesn't quite work. A gap of a couple of weeks gives you time to use AI on real things, notice where you get stuck, and bring those moments to the next visit. By the third lesson you're solving problems you found yourself, not ones I made up.
The three lessons
-
Lesson one: set up and start talking
A free AI assistant installed on your phone, tablet or computer, the privacy options set, and you asking it things by typing, by voice and with the camera. You leave with the first part of your written guide and a few practice tasks. -
Lesson two: your own projects
We start with how the practice went, then use AI on something that matters to you: a trip, a club newsletter, a garden plan, a family history question, or emails you keep putting off. -
Lesson three: photos, everyday tasks and staying safe
Editing and sorting photos, reminders and shortcuts for jobs you repeat, and the scam awareness every AI user needs: cloned voices, fake messages and a family safe word.
A sample practice plan
Between visits there's a short task or two each week. Here's an example; yours will be written around your interests.
| Week | Practice task |
|---|---|
| 1 | Ask your assistant one question a day by voice, about anything at all. |
| 2 | Photograph something you don't recognise and ask what it is, then check the answer elsewhere. |
| 3 | Draft an email you need to send, then rewrite it in your own words. |
| 4 | Plan a day out with AI, then check opening times and prices on the official websites. |
| 5 | Edit three photos, keeping the originals. |
| 6 | Explain your family safe word to someone in the household, or set one up if you haven't yet. |
An example only. The three visits are spread across the six weeks on dates that suit you.
Price and payment
There's nothing to pay before the first visit, and no deposits or contracts. You pay for each visit as it happens (£117, £116 and £116, so £349 in all), by card on the day or by bank transfer afterwards. There's no charge for moving a visit.
Learning by video instead
The course is usually in person. It can be arranged by video call, which may suit anyone outside Kent or with an unpredictable week; ask on the free phone chat and we'll talk it through. If you'd like a taster first, start with a single ChatGPT lesson or a lesson on your phone's built-in AI. For two shorter sessions on screen, see online AI lessons.
Free help exists too, and it's worth knowing about: Kent's libraries hold monthly Digital Hubs where volunteers help with everyday tech in 30-minute slots. The course is for when you want more than a quick fix: three visits from the same person, built around your own projects, with AI and scam safety at the centre. If you're buying for someone else, gift vouchers start at £149.
Questions people ask
Is this AI course suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. It's designed for people starting from scratch, and the first lesson begins with installing the app. If you already use AI a little, we skip ahead.
How far apart are the lessons?
Usually about two weeks, so the three visits fit into six weeks. If life gets in the way, a visit can be moved at no charge.
Do I need a computer for the course?
No. A phone or tablet is enough, and we use whichever device you'll actually reach for day to day.
Why not book one longer lesson instead?
You can, and a single two-hour lesson is £149. The course suits people who want time to practise and someone to come back to with the questions that come up.
Can the course be done online?
It's usually in person, but it can be arranged by video. Ask on the free call and we'll talk it through before you commit.

Who you'll learn with
I'm Ross Hayes, and I live in Herne Bay. I come to you, we use your own phone, tablet or computer, and I explain things in plain English. I never ask for your passwords or bank details, family are welcome to sit in, and there's no selling on the day.
Start with a free 15-minute phone chat, so I can check what you'd like to learn and which device you use.
