Herne Bay · where I live
AI lessons at home and AI help for businesses in Herne Bay
I live in Herne Bay, so a visit here is a short trip across town. I give one-to-one AI lessons in people's homes, on their own phones, tablets and computers, and I help local businesses use AI on the jobs that otherwise eat into their evenings. Here's what I'd look at in this town, and where free help already exists.

Herne Bay's businesses, and where AI fits
Canterbury City Council's town centre strategy describes a High Street of chains and services, independents along Mortimer Street, Morrisons and Aldi as anchors, and a weekly market. Tourism supports around 840 jobs, and there were 626,000 visitor trips in 2024. The council also calls Herne Bay the only seaside town in Kent without a hotel in its centre or on the seafront, which leaves much of the hosting to guest houses, B&Bs and holiday lets.
For a small shop, AI earns its keep on product descriptions, posts and a regular newsletter: see AI for shops and online sellers. For guest houses and cafés, it helps with booking emails, review replies and guest information: see AI for pubs, restaurants, cafés and B&Bs. If you run everything yourself, one-to-one coaching on your own week may be the most useful place to start.

Questions from Herne Bay
Where in Herne Bay are you based?
I live in Herne Bay and work from home, so there's no office or shop to visit: I come to you. For privacy, I don't publish my home address.
Is there a business network in Herne Bay?
The council's strategy calls the town's business network fragmented, with no chamber of commerce. The Herne Bay Coastal Community Team accepts businesses as associate members, which is one way to meet other owners.
Do you give talks to Herne Bay clubs and groups?
Yes. Free talks for clubs, groups and residents' associations cover AI in plain English and how to spot the new scams. Ring to suggest a date.
Will you ask for my passwords during a lesson?
No. You type your own passwords, and I keep well away from online banking. Family can sit in, nothing is sold on the day, and if you'd like me to go, I go.

Who you'll work with
James Hayes Consulting is led by Ross Hayes, who builds software for his own businesses and uses AI tools in them every day. We set AI up on your real work, explain it in plain English, and tell you straight if something isn’t worth paying for.
Every project starts with a free 15-minute call, and prices are agreed in writing before you commit.
