Online AI lessons · Anywhere in the UK

AI lessons by video call, on your own device

If you live outside Kent, or you'd simply rather learn from your own armchair, we can do the lessons by video. You get two one-hour lessons, one-to-one, on whichever AI tools you want to use, with a written summary after each and two weeks of phone help after the second. If video calls are new to you, the first ten minutes can go on getting the call working.

£149 · two 1-hour lessons

By video call, anywhere in the UK. Evenings and weekends by arrangement.

How a lesson works over video

We meet on a video call at a time we've agreed. When we get to the AI part, you share your screen so I can see exactly what you see, and I talk you through each step while you do the tapping and typing. Doing it with your own hands is what makes it stick, so I won't take over.

Screen sharing lets me see your screen, nothing more. I won't ask to control your device, and you can stop sharing with one button whenever you like. If a password or code is needed, pause sharing and type it yourself.

Two hours goes further than you'd think. One good use of it is getting comfortable with a single assistant such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude (the ChatGPT lessons page shows the kind of ground we cover). Another is learning the AI already built into your phone or tablet. If you'd like a longer run, the three-lesson course can be done by video too, and if you're in East Kent, home lessons cost the same for two hours in one visit.

From first phone call to second lesson

  1. A free 15-minute phone chat

We talk about what you want to learn, which device you'll use and which video app you already have. If you have none, I'll suggest one that suits your device.
  2. Lesson one, an hour

Sound, camera and screen sharing first, if needed. Then we set up the AI app you've chosen and use it on something real from your week. A written summary follows by email.
  3. Lesson two, an hour

We start from your practice, sort out whatever went wrong, and add the next set of skills. Afterwards you can ring me for two weeks if you get stuck.

Which set-up works for you

You don't need anything special. These are the usual set-ups and what each one is like for a lesson.

What you have How the lesson works Worth knowing
A laptop or desktop with a webcam The call and the AI app both run on the computer, and you share the screen when we need to. The simplest set-up, and the bigger screen makes the steps easier to follow.
A tablet Join the call on the tablet and share its screen for the practical parts. Prop it on a stand or a few books so both hands are free.
A phone on its own It works: you share the phone's screen and switch back to the call to see me. The screen is small, so we take each step a little more slowly.
Two devices Join the call on one, often a laptop, and learn on the other, often your phone, sharing its screen as well. Handy when the AI you want to learn lives on your phone.

Any of these is fine. We'll choose one on the phone chat.

Getting ready: a ten-minute checklist

  • Charge everythingVideo calls drain batteries quickly, so plug in or keep the charger within reach.
  • Test the link the day beforeOpen the link I send and check it works. If it doesn't, ring me and we'll fix it before the lesson rather than during it.
  • Sit near your routerIf the picture freezes in one room, try another. A cable into a laptop is steadier still.
  • Turn on Do Not DisturbMessages popping up on a shared screen are distracting, and can show things you'd rather keep private.
  • Have your email login to handSetting up ChatGPT or Gemini usually means signing in. You type it yourself, with sharing paused.
  • Write down three questionsSomething you've wondered about AI, or a task you'd like help with. Real examples make for a better hour.

The same promise, by video

I won't ask for your passwords or bank details, I won't ask to take control of your computer or phone, and there's no selling during the lesson. Family are welcome to join the call, and if you want to stop early, we stop.

Questions people ask

Do online AI lessons work as well as lessons in person?

Much of it works well on video, because you share your screen and I talk you through each step. If you'd find it easier with someone beside you and you live in East Kent, a home lesson may suit you better.

Which video call app do you use?

Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or FaceTime. I'll use whichever you already have, so there's nothing new to install unless you want to.

What if the call won't connect on the day?

Ring me on 07500 511462 and we'll sort it out together, or switch to a different app. If it still won't behave, we'll find another time.

Can you see my files when I share my screen?

I can see whatever is on the screen you're sharing, and nothing else. Close anything private before we start, and pause sharing whenever you type a password.

How do I pay for online lessons?

There's nothing to pay before the first lesson. Afterwards I send you a card payment link, or you can pay by bank transfer if you prefer. No deposits and no contracts.

Can I move a lesson to another day?

Yes. There's no charge for rearranging; just let me know by phone or email.
