AI training for staff in Australian businesses

AI training for staff in Australia usually starts after someone notices half the office is already using ChatGPT on a personal login. We run sessions by video, timed for your working day, that teach people to use the tools you already pay for on the work they already do, and to keep customer information out of the wrong places.

What a corporate AI training session in Sydney or Melbourne looks like

The workshop's two half-days, shown in Sydney time for a November booking. Perth teams start earlier in the day.

Block Sydney time Content
Half-day one, part one 6pm to 7pm How tools like ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini write, where they go wrong, and which one your business has approved
Half-day one, part two 7pm to 8.30pm Privacy basics, then everyone drafts a real piece of work: a quote, an email reply, a job summary
Half-day two, part one 6pm to 7pm Checking output properly, and building saved prompts for repeat tasks
Half-day two, part two 7pm to 8.30pm Role groups: front desk, sales, operations. Questions, the policy, and what to do after a mistake

A sample only. Morning slots in Australia fall in the UK evening, and we agree times on the free call.

The tools your staff already have

Most Australian small businesses run on Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. With a work login, Microsoft 365 business plans include Copilot Chat, and Workspace business plans include Gemini, so a lot of training is about using what's there properly (checked October 2026). ChatGPT and Claude business plans are worth it for some teams, mainly because business accounts keep your data out of model training by default.

The real problem is usually the free personal account on someone's phone. ChatGPT training for employees in Australia should start by moving that work onto an account the business controls, then teach the habits. We cover all four tools and show staff where each one keeps its history.

What staff must keep out of AI tools

The Privacy Act 1988 covers businesses with turnover above A$3 million and some smaller ones, including any business providing a health service. The OAIC's guidance on AI products recommends, as good practice, keeping personal information out of publicly available AI tools. In training we turn that into rules people can remember:

  • No customer names with account numbers, Medicare numbers, tax file numbers or driver's licence details.
  • No health information about anyone, in any tool the business hasn't approved.
  • No staff performance or pay details.
  • Nothing goes to a customer unless a person has read it.

Even businesses under the turnover threshold lose customers when data leaks, so we teach the same rules to everyone.

Training that lines up with the Government's AI guidance

In October 2025 the National AI Centre published Guidance for AI Adoption, an update to the 2024 Voluntary AI Safety Standard. It is voluntary, and its Foundations version is written for businesses starting out. It sets six practices, including deciding who is accountable, measuring and managing risks, testing and monitoring, and maintaining human control.

Training maps neatly onto those. We name who's accountable for AI in your business in the coaching session, cover the main risks in the workshop, and build in a person checking every output. If you want the full picture of where AI could help across the business, our audit goes further.

Examples we use for Australian teams

  • Trades and servicesTurning a messy job note into a clean quote description, and drafting the reply to a customer who's unhappy about a delay.
  • Real estate officesProperty descriptions from inspection notes, checked against the facts so nothing is overstated.
  • Accounting and bookkeeping practicesPlain-English summaries of a change for clients, with the accountant checking every figure and date.
  • Clinics and allied healthAdmin only: appointment reminders and policy drafts, with no clinical content and no client health details in general tools.
  • AI workshop for Melbourne small businessesHospitality and retail teams working on menus, rosters and review replies in their own voice.

How to tell it worked

  1. Four weeks on

Ask staff which tool they used last for work. If the answer is still a personal account, the policy needs another look.
  2. Fewer bad drafts

Managers notice fewer emails with made-up details or the wrong tone reaching them for sign-off.
  3. Mistakes get reported

Someone tells you they pasted the wrong thing. That means they understood the rules and trusted you enough to say so.

Questions people ask

How much does AI training for staff cost in Australia?

Our staff briefing is £295 (about A$565) for up to 30 people and the hands-on workshop is £795 (about A$1,525) for up to 10. Prices are in sterling and Australian cards work at checkout.

Is there a law requiring AI training for employees in Australia?

Not a general one. The National AI Centre's Guidance for AI Adoption is voluntary, and the OAIC's guidance shapes how you handle personal information. Training is the practical way to follow both.

Can staff use ChatGPT with customer data under the Privacy Act?

The OAIC recommends keeping personal information out of publicly available AI tools. A business account with training switched off, the least detail possible, and a written policy is the safer approach.

Do you offer face-to-face corporate AI training in Sydney?

No, everything is by video from the UK. Staff join from the office or home, and the workshop is split into two half-days so neither session runs too long.
