WhatsApp chatbot cost · Nigeria

WhatsApp chatbot cost in Nigeria, explained honestly

The WhatsApp chatbot cost in Nigeria starts at nothing for the free WhatsApp Business app, and published platform plans we found in 2026 run up to about ₦638,400 a month, before anyone builds anything and before Meta's own message fees. Custom builds from agencies are usually quoted privately.

What Nigerian businesses pay for a WhatsApp chatbot in 2026

  • Self-serve platforms. You rent software from a Meta Business Solution Provider and build simple flows yourself. One provider selling into Nigeria lists a free tier and a ₦60,000 monthly plan with AI replies (rates stated as of April 2026). Another, as listed by a Nigerian tech guide in March 2026, charges ₦46,400, ₦94,400 or ₦638,400 a month depending on users and features. Neither figure includes Meta's message fees.
  • Freelancers. Many Nigerian developers build bots on one of those platforms for a one-off fee. Prices on freelance marketplaces vary so widely, and so many are in dollars, that we could not find a fair naira range to quote.
  • Agencies. Lagos and Abuja agencies that connect a bot to your CRM, stock list or payments mostly quote after a call. We found no agency publishing a naira price, so treat any figure you hear as one firm's quote, not a market rate.

So the honest answer to "how much is a WhatsApp bot in Lagos?" is: the software can be cheap, and the work around it (writing the answers, connecting your systems, testing and keeping it current) is where the money goes.

What you get at each price

Levels of WhatsApp automation, from the free app to a full build.

Level What it does What you pay for Who it suits
WhatsApp Business app Greeting and away messages, quick replies, a catalogue, labels; one phone, typed by people Nothing to Meta A seller handling a few dozen chats a day
Self-serve platform, menu flows Button menus, FAQs, a shared inbox for several staff on the WhatsApp Business Platform A monthly plan plus Meta's template fees Firms with a few repeat questions and a small team
Platform with AI replies Answers free-text questions from your own price list or FAQ document, hands over to staff A higher plan, set-up time, someone to keep the answers current Busy inboxes where questions vary
Connected build Reads and writes to your CRM, booking calendar, stock sheet or Paystack and Flutterwave links Quoted project work, testing and monthly upkeep Firms where WhatsApp is the main sales channel

Platform plan prices checked October 2026 from providers' own published pages. They change often, so confirm with the provider.

What pushes the price up

  • Number of flowsAnswering five questions is a day's work. Taking an order, a delivery address and a payment is several flows, each of which needs testing.
  • IntegrationsEvery connection (a CRM, a Google Calendar for bookings, a stock spreadsheet, a Paystack or Flutterwave payment link) adds build time and something that can break.
  • LanguagesCustomers write in English, Pidgin, Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo, often in one message. Testing on real chats in each adds time.
  • Human handoverA good bot knows when to stop and pass the chat to a named person with a summary. Buyers often skip this part.
  • Who keeps it currentPrices, stock and opening hours change. Someone has to update the answers, or the bot starts giving out last month's prices.

WhatsApp Business API cost in Nigeria: Meta's own fees

Any chatbot beyond the free app runs on the WhatsApp Business Platform (often called the API), and Meta charges for some messages on top of whatever your provider charges. According to Meta's pricing page (checked October 2026):

  • Since 1 July 2025 Meta charges per delivered template message, by category (marketing, utility, authentication) and by the country code of the person receiving it. Nigeria (+234) has its own rates.
  • Ordinary replies to a customer who messaged you, sent within 24 hours, are free. Utility templates sent inside that window are free too.
  • A chat that starts from a click-to-WhatsApp ad, answered within 24 hours, opens 72 hours in which all messages are free.
  • Meta bills in a set list of currencies, and naira is not on it, so your real cost moves with the exchange rate.

In August 2026 several Nigerian outlets reported that service replies would start costing money from 1 October; a Dubawa fact-check said the headlines overstated it. When we checked in October 2026, Meta's list of pricing updates showed no such change for Nigeria. Check that page before you budget.

One rule that does matter: since 15 January 2026 Meta's terms bar general-purpose AI assistants from the platform, while a business using AI to serve its own customers is still allowed (TechCrunch, October 2025).

Red flags when you buy

  • Meta fees hidden inside a bundleAsk to see Meta's charges separately. Some resellers add a margin per message that you cannot check.
  • Your number on their accountYour WhatsApp Business Account and phone number should be registered to your business, so you can move provider without losing your number.
  • No exportYou should be able to download your contacts and chat history. If you can't, you are locked in.
  • No named person for handoverIf nobody on your side gets an alert when the bot is stuck, angry customers wait in silence.
  • Asking for card numbers or OTPs in chatPayment details belong on a secure Paystack or Flutterwave page, not in a WhatsApp message.
