AI for hobbies · At home across East Kent

Use AI for the things you love doing

Some of the most enjoyable uses of AI have nothing to do with work. It can be a conversation partner in French, a second pair of eyes on a faded parish record, or a tutor for the subject you never got round to. In two hours at your home we'll set it up for your own interests, and you'll learn where it slips up, which matters just as much.

£149 · 2 hours at home

Home visits across Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham and Thanet. Evenings and weekends by arrangement.

Ideas to start with

Languages

A conversation partner

Talk out loud in the language you're learning, ask it to correct you, and have it explain the grammar when you trip up.

Family history

Old records, organised

Read difficult handwriting from a photo, pull names and dates into a table, and keep a list of what still needs checking.

Gardening

What is that plant?

Point your camera at a plant, a pest or a sickly leaf and ask. Cross-check before you dig anything up or spray anything.

Writing

Your story, in your words

Let AI interview you about your memories and suggest a structure while you do the writing. It suits memoirs, short stories or a speech.

Music and art

The theory behind it

Ask why a chord change works or how a painter got that effect, then try it yourself. Image tools are fun for ideas, not a replacement for your own hand.

Trips

Days out, planned

Routes, timings and places to eat, with the details confirmed on official sites before you set off.

Where AI goes wrong, and how to check

AI assistants are built to produce a plausible answer, and sometimes a plausible answer is simply made up. With hobbies it shows up in particular ways: a family tree with an invented great-uncle, a French phrase no French speaker would use, a battle dated a decade out, or a plant called harmless when it isn't.

Three habits help. Look at the source behind an answer yourself, rather than taking the summary on trust. Give the AI your own material to work from, such as your documents and notes, instead of asking it to recall facts. And for anything that matters (safety, family records you'll share, money), check with a person or an official source. The jargon buster explains terms like hallucination, and Is ChatGPT safe? covers privacy.

The £149 lesson is two hours one-to-one at your home, a printed guide written around your hobby, and two weeks of phone help afterwards. If photography is your thing, the photo and video lessons go further, and if you live outside East Kent, online lessons cover all of this by video.

Questions people ask

Can AI read old handwriting?

Often reasonably well from a clear photo, but it guesses at faded or unusual words. Ask it to mark anything it's unsure of, and check names and dates against the original.

Can AI identify plants from a photo?

It can usually suggest a likely name and point out features to check. Treat it as a starting point, and don't rely on it for whether something is safe to eat.

Is AI any good for learning a language?

It's useful for speaking practice, because you can talk out loud whenever you like without feeling self-conscious. It isn't a replacement for a course or a teacher, and it can let mistakes slide unless you ask to be corrected.

Can AI help me write my life story?

Yes, mostly by asking you good questions and helping you organise what you write. Keep the writing your own; AI prose tends to sound bland.

Does AI make things up?

Sometimes, yes. It can invent names, dates and sources that sound real, so check anything you plan to rely on or share with others.
